Short Term Therapy
Short term therapy usually lasts for a period of 6- 12 sessions and is useful if you need to process something specific that has happened or prepare for something that is coming up. Sometimes people simply need a space to talk, at other times short term work has a distinct goal in mind. Outdoor or ‘walk and talk’ therapy suits this way of working if you are local Tonbridge but working online and in person are available too.
Ongoing Counselling & Psychotherapy
I have an integrative approach which means I can adapt my way of working to meet you at your point of need. Sometimes, this is as a skilled listener, providing a safe place for you to talk and process. I will offer you insights as I listen, and aim to empower and enable you to find your own way forwards. This is what is more widely known as ‘talking therapy’ and many people find the experience to be a transforming gift.
I am also a trained Parks Inner Child Therapist (PICT). PICT is a trauma informed approach that is directive yet flexible. It is a goal focused, visualisation-based approach that can be especially helpful for people who want to experience measurable change in their thoughts, feelings or behaviours.
PICT is best suited for when people are ready to move into the process of change work, which often follows on from the processing that happens in talking therapy.
PICT was originally created to specifically help people recover from the trauma and damage of sexual, physical and emotional abuse during childhood. However, PICT is equally effective for a wide range of difficulties such as anxiety and depression, a lack of thriving, low self-esteem and lack of assertiveness, repeating patterns in relationships, grief and loss issues, post-traumatic stress, and other experiences or problems that can be hard to move beyond. In PICT work, you will be able to form a useful understanding of the model so that you can continue to use it even when our work together is complete. You can find out more about PICT on the website http://www.ppfoundation.org/pict.aspx
I work outdoors if this appropriate for the work we are doing. Not all counselling work is suited to being outside so please let me know if this is of interest to you.
I believe that successful counselling comes from the foundation of a relationship that feels safe and trusting. From this basis we journey together towards restoration and resolution.
Workplace Supervision
For those who work with others either in education, charities or churches, having a confidential space to talk through the work you are doing and the impact it has on you, once a month, can provide the space and support you need to carry on giving out. It is also useful to talk to a person who can hear about your workplace objectively and who isn’t caught up in the day-to-day dynamics. I bring my expertise from my counselling background to this listening space, and input coaching tools to help you grow.
Clinical Supervision
Supervision is not the same as counselling, yet there are many similarities between the counselling and supervision I offer.
Firstly, as with finding the right counsellor, I believe it’s vital to find a supervisor you fit well with. As a counsellor and a supervisor, I bring a relational approach to the work I do and I believe successful supervision stems from a relationship that feels safe, trusting and containing.
From my experience of training counsellors and in leading a counselling service, professional standards are important to me. I have found I work best with practitioners who seek to work with the values and aspirations of the BACP Ethical Framework and who follow the professional guidance it offers.
I am happy to receive email enquiries from students and newly qualified counsellors as well as more experienced practitioners, please email me if you would like to consider working together, telling me a bit about yourself and what supervision you are seeking. We can then arrange a time to talk on the phone or over zoom.
Therapeutic Coaching with the Enneagram
The Enneagram has roots that go back into antiquity, but the Enneagram of Personality that is more widely known today is some 50 years old. When I first came across the enneagram, I had been a counsellor for many years and thought I had a good level of self-awareness. I was blown away by how much more self-awareness I gained through learning my type patterns and how this impacted my relationships. Amongst its many pearls of wisdom it can help us to see ourselves and others with compassionate awareness, fostering a non-judgemental understanding and appreciation of difference.
“The enneagram doesn’t just reveal to us who we are and how we are functioning in the world, it gives us a clear invitation to grow and transform and is in itself a dynamic route map for life”
I qualified in 2021 as a Panel Facilitator, Typing Practitioner and Teacher with UK Enneagram Training and in 2024 as a One-to-one Practitioner.
You may know your enneagram type already or you may be new to the enneagram.
I offer:
- A one-off typing session
- Therapeutic Coaching with the enneagram
- A blended approach using the enneagram in counselling
